Class 6 - THE FEAR IS REAL: SKETCHING HUMANS

INSTRUCTOR: Jingo M. de la Rosa

Jingo is a commercial illustrator, urban sketcher and art educator. He has been illustrating professionally since 2011, having been an in-house artist for a major publishing company. In 2013, he decided to take the jump and go the freelance route! Since then, he has worked with world-renowned organizations such as Duncan Toys, the Houston Symphony and Eli Lilly & Co, among others. He also hosts DRAWN, a bimonthly sketch night and live performance event that serves local Indianapolis artists, art students and hobbyists.

DATE:

12:00 P.M., Saturday, May 20

LOCATION:

We’ll meet at Jackson Boulevard & State Street where we can sketch in Barnes and Noble or out in the streets where there is a lot of foot traffic.

BREAKDOWN OF 2.5 HOUR CLASS:

15 min. Introduction of the workshop by the instructor, introduction of each attendee and passing out hand-outs
15 min. Gesture drawing demonstration
30 min. Fieldwork in gesture drawing
15 min. Discussion & demonstration on how to draw people that are interacting with one another, therefore creating a narrative.
60 min. Fieldwork in creating a narrative
60 min. Meetup for questions and sharing the final piece with the group
The instructor will circulate and counsel participants during the exercises. The instructor and participants will also review sketches together after each exercise.

SUPPLY LIST:

  • Sketchbook
  • Pencils (different grades, if possible; HB, 2B, 4B & 6B)
  • Any other medium that the attendee is comfortable with.
